Safe Church

The Diocese of Rhode Island has been providing Safe Church Training for all involved in Christian Education, lay employees, and lay ministers of parish churches. At St. Mary’s Church, we want to make sure that our church is as safe as possible for all our members, both young and old. In order to accomplish this, guidelines for our childrens’ and teens’ programs will be put into place. Some things to expect:

Classrooms will be locked unless in use for a class, or a teacher is preparing a lesson.

All involved in Godly Play (3yrs through 4th grade) must be picked up by a parent or authorized person at 10:15 am when the class ends.

All involved in Exploring Our Faith, Rite 13, J2A, and YEA are expected to be picked up following class or to go to the Church for Worship. No children or youth are to remain in the Parish House.

Parents can expect that all programs will abide by Safe Church practices.

While we expect a church to be completely safe simply by virtue of it being a church, the sad reality is that this is not always the case. So please keep an eye on our children when they are not in classes.

We can create together an atmosphere of mutual respect and responsibility in which the Baptismal Covenant is yet again lived out here, to "respect the dignity of every human being."
